| Restructure expands Shaft Sinkers' reach in the Mining Industry - 30 November 2006 |
Shaft Sinkers recently underwent a significant restructuring process that enabled the company to expand its reach and priorities its internal capabilities. The company now consists of three different divisions - namely mining, shaft sinking and its in-house design division, Mets. The new structure will allow each division to concentrate on its core competences and a major focus will be given to research and development, new technology and innovations.
The restructure has ensured that Shaft Sinkers plays a permanent role in the operation of the mine and, as such has allowed Shaft Sinkers to offer its employees full time positions. In the past, the company's shaft sinking projects were run with a set beginning and end date; however the new mining service offering enables Shaft Sinkers to take on more full time employees to assist in the operation of the mine.
As a result of the restructure, Shaft Sinkers Mining has been contracted to produce 500 000 tons of ore per month for its extensive list of clients. Involved in all stages of shaft development – from feasibility to execution, Shaft Sinkers Mining acts as a one-stop shop for mining companies.
Shaft Sinkers Mining is able to undertake metalliferous and coal mining on behalf of clients, including taking over the complete responsibility of the mine, from shaft head to delivering ore at the mill. Conventional and mechanised mining methods are applied successfully at deep and shallow underground coal, platinum, gold and diamond mines.
The company has successfully won tenders for a number of unique and challenging projects for its clients. Recent mining contracts include producing 250 000 tons of platinum ore per month off the UG2 reef at Aquarius's Everest mine, operating Lonmin's Saffy, Hossy and Rowland shafts, the International Ferra Metals (IFM) project, which includes the management and operation of all mining activities underground and infrastructure on surface, as well as a developing contract for AngloGold Ashanti's Moab Khotsong mine.
